Quote
This is the white cradle, this is the white pool
This is the white ocean chasm in which we float steerless and captured
Black destination with villages of joyful living seems impossible
Made unreal and distant by the thick white fog
Poetry.
Kasaipwalova, John. Reluctant Flame. Papua Pocket Poets, 1971, n.p.
My flame take your fuel from these brother flames
Let not the oceans drown your linking pipe
You will grow, you will grow, you will grow like a boil on pale skins
Maybe your vibrant lava will flow to burn anew the world
When Johannesburg and New York is in flames
and the black vomit will fertilize this barren soil
Poetry.
Kasaipwalova, John. Reluctant Flame. Papua Pocket Poets, 1971, n.p.
They come, they go,' Dipapa said, sucking his gums and looking towards the sky, like a man half asleep, 'Black men, white men, canoes, steamers. They bring their somethings. But we - we stay and watch, that is all. Everyday the same.
Novel, Fiction.
Stow, Randolph. Visitants. Text Publishing, 2015 [1979], p. 88.
Some of the natives in this village [Lubila, adjacent to Kaibola] are rather disturbed owing to the pleadings of the 'Tokwai' or woodsprites who are proving a source of inconvenience to them, by their chatter and cant concerning the negligence of the natives not advising the government that by cutting the big timber down […] they are rendered homeless. I am told that such talk goes on night after night but as I could not hear them I told the natives that this could not be true! To which they replied, 'Well, you are a Dim-Dim, but we can hear them rushing about and talking the whole night long and we are blamed that they have no home.'
