Padar jaan, now you insist on paying them money. Suppose that I paid, then they leave us in a strange city that even we do not know its name?' Said Maman.
'Madar jaan, do not worry. God is merciful. If they left you in the way, I myself will come to pick you.' Said Montazer.
I was reading a question full of doubts through Maman's beautiful eyes while she was taking money out of her white zer perahani. She had sewn the zer perahani with a big pocket onto it with her own hands before we moved to Indonesia, to put the money which we were not supposed to give to anyone until we arrived in Jakarta. The smile doesn't go away from Pari's face. She talks freely about their morning. They have been in the UNHCR office to register themselves. I apologize that Pari and her husband had to come to pick us from Saba Nooz but Pari says the UNHCR office is only two streets behind the hotel. Pari takes out some papers that are punched. Black and white photos of Pari and her husband are on top of the papers. Narges grabs the papers. She looks at them but everything is written in English and she cannot read them. She returns the papers to Pari and wants to know why she pulled her scarf behind her ears in the photo. Pari explains that all parts of the face must be visible in the UNHCR ID paper. I do not ask her anything. Short story, fiction. Sepid, Helma. "The Red Sky." the archipelago, 15 June 2020, https://www.thearchipelago.org/the-red-sky/.

I live a life of agony and lies,
surfing on my parents' tears
when my own seas have run dry.

Mereka sering menghabiskan waktu. / This is love: to fly toward a secret sky. The Sundanese always liked this line of poetry. Its fragment once uttered by Abdul-Hakeem Irshad. They often met on the roadside of Kalibata Road where they could easily find various snack vendors. They spent time together. The crowd and the sound of the passing trains occasionally interrupted their conversation. When that line of poem was recited to her, The Sundanese didn't even have to know what question Abdul-Hakeem Irshad was asking. She was blushing and nodded in agreement. Short story, fiction. The protest started with mourning their fellow refugee people who have committed suicide in Indonesia. Since the beginning of the pandemic, six refugee people have taken their own lives, including Nematullah Mohammedi who killed himself in International Organisation for Migration (IOM) accommodation in Tanjung Pinang, on March 22 this year. Adding them to the list, there have been at least thirteen refugee people who have committed suicide across Indonesia since 2014. Protestors brought some coffins to represent them and posted their photos on banners and did candle light prayers for them. Refugee protesters said it could be every refugee person's fate if they continue to remain in limbo in Indonesia.
On May 17, an Afgan woman tried to set herself on fire at the protest, pouring herself with petrol in protest but the police and security at the building stopped her and she was saved. She is 28 years of age and has been alone in Indonesia for seven years. Journalistic article. Joniad, JN. Since I have moved to Jakarta I am lucky that I can continue my painting. My room is my studio. The most valuable time for creativity is at night when everyone is asleep and it is calm and quiet.
To be honest it has been tough and hard. The long time waiting for resettlement and the uncertainty of the future has made the conditions of living horrible and has caused me severe stress, depression and nightmares. However, painting and creativity has been my best part of my life to inhale and exhale things in a positive way. Personal essay, art writing. Ali, Murtaza.
