When I came to Indonesia, I was in jail for two months, then in detention center for three years and a half. In the first year, I did not do anything. But then I realized if I sit down and waste my time, it will kill me one day. I realized I should be painting. I studied more about art and understood that there are a lot of styles. That as an artist, I should choose my own. I researched and researched and found Egon Schiele and Edvard Munch, and moved from the more realistic to the more expressionistic. Maybe that was the mood of the time. / Setelah tiba di Indonesia, saya dipenjara selama dua bulan, lalu dipindah dan menetap di pusat penahanan selama tiga setengah tahun. Pada tahun pertama saya di sana, saya tidak melakukan apa-apa. Tapi kemudian saya sadar kalau hanya duduk-duduk dan menyia-nyiakan waktu akan membunuh diri saya suatu hari nanti. Saya menyadari kalau saya seharusnya melukis. Setelah itu, saya mempelajari lebih banyak tentang seni dan memahami berbagai aliran seni. Sebagai seorang seniman, saya harus memilih aliran seni yang cocok dengan diri saya. Saya mempelajari seni dengan lebih dalam lagi dan menemukan Egon Schiele dan Edvard Munch.
